Article Summary

This article will give you detailed information on how to set up and use a SiteManager with SIM cards.

SIM Card Requirements.

The SIM card needs to be the correct size Mini-SIM (2FF) (This size is also known as "Standard Size") and needs to support PPP

SIM Card installation.

You will need to insert the SIM card into the SIM slot at the top of the SiteManager as shown in the picture below.

Make sure that the SIM card is inserted 100% into the SiteManager. An audible click will appear when the SIM card is inserted correctly and the SIM card will flush with the top of the SiteManager.

SIM Card setup.

You will need to reboot the SiteManager after the installation of the SIM card in the SiteManager. This will need to be done each time a SIM card is inserted into a SiteManager.

In some cases, you will need to configure a SIM PIN code (4) or an APN (3) on the SiteManager. This can be accomplished from the menu "System > Uplink2"

It can also be configured from a USB device. Please see the following article for more information: Create USB configuration

SMS only

To configure a SiteManager to only receive and send text messages from the menu "System > Uplink2" under "Mode". When this is activated you will not be able to reach the internet using the Uplink2 port.

SMS Wakeup

SMS Wakeup is a setting that allows you to "disable" a SiteManager until it receives a text message with a passphrase that enables it. This is useful if you want to save on Idle data that SiteManager uses (For more information about data usage please see: Idle data usage) or you want to control when users can access a device.

You can enable SMS wakeup from "System > Uplink2" under "Mode" For a deeper explanation on how to set up SMS wakeup and how to use it please see: Using SMS-Wakeup.
